Fast talkin' lip shmackin' Dusto
Went on 3RRR today on The Grapevine with Kulja Coulston to talk about the album. Listened to the playback on radio on demand (http://ondemand.rrr.org.au at 11.30am roughly) when I got home and realised that I might be the FASTEST talking musician in Melbourne.
Who was that dude who wrote that book Praise in the 90s? Andrew McGahan wasn't it? He was the fastest talking dude I ever saw/heard talk. Or Fran Capo. She's pretty impressive:

Basically you'll be thrown around a whole bunch. But you must come or risk the tedium of being stationary for the afternoon. Boring! Let's dance.
$10 entry without the album. $20 entry with the album. Out on CD now. And bandcamp and all of that. The full space odyssey will be launched in 2014.

Jane Dust and The Giant Hoopoes are a symphonic pop group that have been playing round Melbourne since the start of 2010. Jane Dust is on vocals and electric guitar and the Giant Hoopoes are Stu Thomas on bass (of Stu Thomas Paradox, Dave Graney and the Lurid Yellow Mist, Kim Salmon and the Surrealists), Clare Moore on drums (Dave Graney and the Lurid Yellow Mist and The Dames), Will Hindmarsh on keys and synth (Go Go Sapien, Emily Mae and the Alarum Belles) and Louisa Trewartha on trumpet (Hawthorn Brass Band, State Opera).

In late 2012 Jane Dust and the Hoopoes will be releasing their next concept album Space Odyssey: Part I . The album is the first part of a symphonic space odyssey and has three suites, each dedicated to the planets of Mars, Venus and Earth. Beautifully recorded and co-produced by Casey Rice (Dirty Three, Liz Phair, Tortoise) Space Odyssey: Part I is an overarching sonic narrative about a galactic hunt for a menacing, dastardly space menace - 'The Creature' . JD explains:
'I wanted to record again with Casey Rice for my third album, because he is a genius when it comes to capturing and crafting sound. My last album clearly referenced and celebrated the early sounds of the 70s. I love that period - I love the sounds of the drums, I love the soaring symphonics. This new album is very symphonic too and is also concept album. This time there is an over-arching narrative about a space hunt. It is designed to be listened to in a single sitting - much like a short story should be read in a single sitting. Whilst the last album had country touches, this album is clearly within the genre of pop -- space pop, if you will. Over the last couple of years I've developed quite a passion for the works of composers Barry Gray and early 70s bands like Renaissance -- I think this new album reflects that'.
Jane Dust released A Spray of Red from the Deep in 2008. A solo, stripped back affair, recorded expertly by Dave Graney and Clare Moore, her first solo album enabled her to hone and refine her song-writing craft. Dust's self-titled second album Jane Dust was released in 2010 on Vitamin Records - a symphonic tribute album that tipped its furry, feathery hat to late 60s British pop and early 70s torch ballads. The album was well received, reviewed and listed as one of the best releases of of 2010 by Boomeister of Inpress . You can read some the reviews here.
